Day 1: Arriving in Freiburg

Once upon a time there was a train, an on this particular day, it was 35 minutes delayed!

The wurst adventure started today, and the first 4 bloggers arrived in Frankfurt. After printing some twenty tickets from a machine, we found our way to the platform to take the train to our first stop for the journey, Freiburg. After waiting around 20 minutes we discovered our first train was delayed, which ment we missed our connecting train from Mannheim to Freiburg.

Travelling with DB Bahn this was not a problem. In Mannheim the employees where kind and helpful, and changed our seating to the next train to Freiburg.

In Freiburg we found our way to the hotel for the night, The Best Western Premier Hotel Victoria. It was situated close to the city center.

Our first post on the program was wine tasting at the Alte Wache. This winery sells wine from over 30 local wine producers in the heart of the city center. In this venue they have over 450 events annually and wine tasting is a big part of it, often served with food of different themes. After a delicious tasting session including 1 sparkling wine, 3 white and 1 red wine accompanied by flammkueche, it was time for dinner and our first wurst!

At Ganter Brauereiausschank, also located in the heart of the city center, we enjoyed local German cuisine including wurst of veil and farmers sausage served with traditional side dishes. The meal was completed with local beer and wine served by employees in traditional Dirndl dresses. A great end to a full day of travels!
